Bought them at the dealership parts counter (factory painted).
Installed them myself after having the HHR for 6 months.

TSB (Technical Service Bullitin) IS 06-08-51-002 But they will only paint the rear fenders and rockers once. They did paint and install my boards for 435.00 but I had to fight with them. If you do a search on this site you will find the links for this ...hope that helps!

What no boards?

We drove an HHR in Hawaii before we really knew much about them and fell in love with the retro look and the space inside. Iwas sitting there thinking how come they didn't have boards and then found out they came as an option so when we decided to get one it had to have boards and of course the one we got didn't. Our's is sport red and when i found a set on ebay for less than $300.00 already painted red how could we go wrong? Wrong red! They came the special edition non metallic bright red. About the time they came my daughter backed her van into the HHR! The estimates ran around $2K but I took it to Dent pro and they did the repair and painted the boards for $1K Now we've finally got an HHR with the boards that should hve been there to start with.

Bought mine with the running boards. Lurking on this site and reading about the paint chip issues, helped me to decide that my car had to be equipped with it.

I got mine as part of the negotiations for the sale. Mine had no running boards at the dealership. They threw them in as an incentive. I told them that they were a "must-have" to complete the sale - at no extra charge to me.

GM will not offer you anything in lue of running boards unless you poke them with a stick...like the Better Business Bureau. Those people got me my running boards for absolutely nothing. GM will offer you the boards for half price but keep refusing and they will give in eventually. Especially when the BBS keeps getting the same complaint time after time.
