How rare is yours?
And since you offered up your VIN in the first post...
The _FREE_ Carfax report indicates--
VIN 3GNDA23D46S586087
Year/Make/Model: 2006 CHEVROLET HHR LT
Body Style: 4 DR. WAGON/SPORT UTILITY
Engine Type: 2.2L L4 SFI
Manufactured In: MEXICO
Search Results: 13 records found in our database
(Note: "Search results" above indicates the number of "entries" they have on the car--- service activities, wreck/repairs, etc., not how many people looked up the number).
That took zero seconds... I wonder if I pay my $5 what I find out about your car.
Your VIN has also made it into google cache... which is either 18 months or forever depending on who you believe. Google says after 18 months, they "anonymize" all data (but 1. they have never given a satisfactory definition for what that means, and 2. there are thousands upon thousands of examples logged by EFF and others of "anonymized" data being tracked back to an individual with no special skills or tools, and in literally minutes).
I'm not trying to beat up your VIN website tool, or you... just hoping to raise some consciousness in thread participants about the reality we live in.

Cut XXL some slack he is just pointing out something to think about. One of these time the site may not be as forgiving.
The key is not to be paranoid but to be informed and smart.
This web site may not be dangerous but the next one may be. Just think before you enter any personel info anywhere.

so that site can phish out your email just from visiting it? even if you use a webmail? I don't buy it, but I'm all ears, how much info am I sharing by visiting a website, set aside my standard IP info.
I don't really care about any information gathered by the site, and I really don't think the vast majority do either, I suspect this site gathers more anyway. But I had printed out the results it had for my vehicle and found two more errors today when I looked at it. According to that website my HHR has painted mirrors, which it does not, and according to that website it has an ash tray, which it does not. In fact I didn't think any HHR's had ashtrays, but that site says 57,660 of them did. So that makes three obvious errors that I'm aware of. I would bet there are other errors I am not aware of right now.
It says that it is a 5 door Uplevel High Roof H/B. Exactly what is a high roof? They all seem to be the same and as far as I'm concerned the roof is not high at all. And when it says the build date is unknown I really wonder, they were given the VIN after all. Plus it says unknown for 10 of the RPO codes. To me there is far too much that is wrong or unknown.
For those who like it, good for you, I do not though.
