I may return...

I've been a member of these forums for quite some time...joined back in 2007 after picking up my 2006 1LT. Traded that in early in 2009 for a 2007 Dodge Ram...nice truck, lots of room but the payment and the gas mileage is literally killing me now.

That being said, I was in an accident two weeks ago this coming Friday with the Ram. Did about $4K in damage, and until that is being repaired, I was given a 2011 1LT with 2K miles on it as a rental.

Due to the insane gas mileage I am getting, my buddy has expressed interest in purchasing my truck from me, and as a result, I am seriously considering coming back to HHR. Looking back I regret ever trading it in to begin with as it would already be paid for.

With that in mind, what year did ABS become standard as well as ESC and Traction Control? I'm keeping my eyes open so I just want to make sure I get the best deal. Thanks for all your help!

I believe EST electronic stability control was in 2009. ABS should have been standard from the start.

My 2007 1LT doesn't have ABS/traction control. As far as I know, from 2006-2008, ABS/traction control only came standard on 2LT models and SS models. It was not standard on LS and 1LT models from 2006-2008. Starting in 2009, all trim levels (LS, 1LT, 2LT, & SS) have ABS/traction control as a standard feature.

stability control

Started with 2LT and SS in 2008, standard everywhere in 2009. ABS was always on 2LT I believe, standard everywhere in 2009. My 2007 2LT has ABS.

I never could get accustomed to ABS - it seems to act erratically when a wheel gets airborne during braking due to rough road surfaces - a common condition in the state of New Jersey if not elsewhere. One of the reasons I bought the HHR LS model is because it did not have ABS. I can live without it, and it is one less thing that can go wrong.

As far as ESC is concerned - is it anything more than a gimmick?

Not when your HHR tries to go into a spin.
