I really want to test drive a 5 speed 2.4
You may agree with the dealership on a firm price before ordering the vehicle, but that's about it. You can't get the financing done. Why, because the rates will change as well as incentives by the time the vehicle arrives to the dealership. I sell Chevy's and I have taken special orders.
I think the question would be, are you willing to put in an order knowing that the terms (whatever they might be) would go up or increase on delivery?
No rear wheel drive cars for years. Lost sales to police, fire and taxi fleets beacause of it. No cars to take on the Ford Crown Vic, Dodge Charger, Chrysler 300, Mustang. HHR late to market to compete with PT. No sporty cars that inspire buyers until the Solstice and Sky, but bean counters restrict production. Medium duty trucks loosing ground to Ford F-Series again due to bean counters holding back production rates on dealer orders to focus on other products. Customers go elseware to buy what GM can't or wont provide.
Some changes are coming, but it's been years since there have been interesting cars coming from the general.
Check the numbers again, Toyota is just about ready to overtake GM.
I hate to see it, but if I didn't have to drive a GM car I might not.
I think (?) we are both trying to say the same thing; would anyone do a special order if the price could substantially increase? As Chingchonger said you can agree with the dealership on a firm price for the vehicle but not the financing costs and incentives. My question is still the same, would he do a special order on the understanding that the total price will not go up from what it would have been at time of order? Maybe its all a moot point, no contract, so the consumer has the right to refuse the vehicle if the terms where not acceptable at delivery (deposit?). So special order away Chooch and 20vtguy.
Once you have a contract on the selling price, the price is set. order or buy from stock. Retail orders will sometimes have price protection from GM if the order is placed before the price increase.
You can search for financing and are not limited to the dealer. I had my financing locked in at my credit union once I had the sales order in hand.

We've had cell laws in NY since like 2001 and it does nothing to stop people from using their cell while driving. In fact I would say I see it more since the laws were enacted because of the rise in popularity of cell phones since then. Cell tickets usually get tossed out of court with no fine paid if the person fights it because of the police departments failure too obey the laws that they are supposed to be upholding. Every day I see at least 3 or 4 if not more police driving around talking on there cells. They can't really charge you with a law that the police won't even obey so the judge ends up dropping the ticket and all associated fines.
