Instant Enonomy on DIC?
Instant Enonomy on DIC?
Ive been noticing a drop from 28.4 to 27 average MPG on the dic. (which based on some of the posts doesnt seem too bad for a 2.2 auto). Then over the weekend I guess I left the Sirius on, and maybe a dvd screen as well... leading to dead battery on Sunday.
After a few attempted jumps with a jump box (also with a dead battery) I waited another day for a recharge of the Jump box and got luhhrch back running this morning.
Then I noticed something strange... The avg MPG was showing 28, then 28.5 when I backed out, then back to 28, down to 27.4 while pulling away. This rapid change (every minute or so) continued on the drive to work. During lunch I hit the A/C and there was an immediate .5mpg drop on the display.
I am starting to think I got into instant econ somehow (instead of average). perhaps even into a diagnostic mode. I will have to see if I have any other different readings available later.
Has anyone else had this happen?

Try this sometime, As you crest a hill and have a long downhill in front of you reset your DIC. I have exceeded 58mpg plus doing this, however as soon as you crack open the throttle again it will freefall back down to normal. It sure makes you feel good for a few min though!
The number in the DIC is more of an average, so just after resetting it you'll see changes right away... once it has some 'history' it will become more steady.
I reset my DIC with every fillup just so I have a more relavent number to compare to the driving I'm doing now, instead of having 2 months worth of highway driving to buffer it off and make it look better than it really is. It takes a few miles though before it stops jumping all over the place. Even after a few days, adjusting your driving style shows a more or less instant change.

I've never really noticed it change rapidly except as I'm pulling out of the gas station after a fillup. I don't often leave the DIC on that setting. Down here in Florida, I'm more interested in the temp outside. It was 100 degrees when I got in my car this afternoon!

Gotta love technology
