Interesting gas mileage observation
kms per litre would seem to make more sense, but a litre is much smaller than a gallon (1 US Gal = 3.78 L).
A rating of 10 km per litre would sound horrendous when it's actually the same as 10L per 100 km.
HOW does your DIC predict future MPG greater than you have been getting ? ? ?
I used the word estimating; it's not predicting anything (except the potential travel range), it's measuring it. The engine management module knows your RPM, your speed, your distance travelled and measures the amount of air getting into the engine. From that, it knows exactly how much fuel to inject to get the optimum fuel/air ratio. So it knows exactly how much fuel is used every second.
And whats with this l/100Km ?
That's pretty much what the rest of the world is using, with only very few exceptions.
I think it's backward as well, but that's how it is defined up here and probably all of the other countries that use the metric system.

I wouldn't recommend using the DIC to calculate mpg. As other posters have mentioned, it's usually off by one or two mpg.
If you feel you must use it, don't reset it after fill-ups. It will be more accurate in the long run if you don't reset it.
For the most accurate calculation, just "do the math" using your gas station receipt.

I did a trip using premium. 470 miles driven, 14.7 gallons = 31.97 mpg.
My HHR averages 28.7 mpg on my daily comutes and varies depending on the gas in the tank i.e. unleaded, mid-grade, premium. Been using mid-grade mostly. Have 29,000 miles on the odo. Still at 3 deer hits. The misses are in the teens..

Could we avoid the DIC MPG debate please? It's like religion, you either believe it or you don't. I don't care if people trust it or not, that's beside the point of this thread.

I know this is an over kill but I track my mileage in Excel. The last time I rest the DIC was back in November when I started tracking my mileage.
From 11-9-07 to 5-25-07 6 Months
Total Miles 14031
Total Dollar Spent $1,352.67
Average cost per gallon $2.28
Average MPG 23.9
90% Highway driving, average speend between 70-75 mph.
