Jump starting other vehicles?
Has anyone had any experience with this? Yesterday we had to drive to LA to pick up a Jeep I bought. The Jeep had not been driven in a while so the battery was dead. I always carry cables in all my cars so I got them out and hooked them up to the HHR to the jump points under the hood. My cables have a black box built in that lights up red, yellow, or green based on your connection. The red light was always on when connected to the HHR. Obviously, the Jeep would not start.
So finally, I just popped the hatch and connected the cables directly to the battery and immediately got a green light and the Jeep started without issue. So this makes me believe that the connections under the hood are only for receiving a boost and not giving one. Is that correct?

ok I do roadside assistance for a living along with my hhr. I can tell you that when my jump box don't work like on a chevy yukon or cadillac escalade that this little hhr has impressed me because it jumpstarts those vehicles quiker than my silverado would and that is from the underhood points.

Interesting. I wonder why mine would not. I put the same cables on my Cadillac and get immediate green and start the other vehicle. Same as if I just got straight to the HHR battery.
Oh no! I've got a gremlin!

question... when you said you attached to the "hooked them up to the HHR to the jump points under the hood." your talking about the red flip up on the "fuse box" and the "bolt" on the engine side of the radiator cowling just in front of the coil pack... if yes... read no futher...
however if you are using the stud at the back of the "fuse box" towards the fire wall... ouch. chevy dealer in polson mt used the two points on the "fuse box" end up blowing the EPS 60 AMP fuse... allot of people did this when the HHR first came out... that would be a good "sticky" HOW TO SAFELY JUMP YOUR HHR...

I did use the positive under the red flip down cover. The ground point is marked to be on top of the strut. No luck there so I also tried grounding to an engine bolt. No luck there either. I didn't see anywhere on the fuse box that looked suitable for grounding.
