Fillup tonight took 12.074 gallons at about a 1/4 tank...mpg came out to 33.71 mpg...no matter how you do the math it still is great mpg in my book..if I can keep around this mpg one of my hangups about trading in the Matrix will be addressed. 407.5 on that tank at a 1/4...I'll take that

I`ll be honest, when I first got the Cruck, I would be checking mpg, and how far I can go on the tank, that kind of stuff, not anymore.
I buy gas about every two weeks, I know how far I can go, I see the gauge, I`m just cruising along in my (wifes) newish ride, zooming past all those SUV`s that are sweating , station-to-station.

 

In theory, doesn't the DIC know pretty much the exact amount of fuel injected vs. rpm, etc.? So shouldn't it be fairly accurate? Or does it just use a ballpark algorithm?

 

I just looked at my DIC today, just to check oil life, first time in about a month.

 

Wow! I wish I could do that. I usually have to fill up twice a week. If I don't have to fill up twice I have to fill up once and stop sometime mid week to toss in another $20-$30.

 

Every 4 days for me but a 100 mile r/t 5 days a week commute will do that...just went over 3300 miles andit will be 1 month of ownership in 2 days...I love trying to push for as much mpg as I can get...it is a boring ride so I gotta try stuff to keep me from falling asleep


Did you make sure the kids were out of the room?

My KIDS (sons) are both grown,(well they think they are, even though they still live with me) they have their own

 

I hope they're both male.

 

What I've decided to do the last 2000 or so miles on a 3300 mile new HHR is not reset the DIC MPG...although I reset the trip A each tank. Trip B is in sync with the MPG last reset so that way you can see MPG total for those miles. The trip A between each fill I calculate manually so I know what each fill was. I just keep a bunch of receipts tucked in the Dash pod. This way I can see what trips were getting what MPG...I jot little notes like if it was all city or highway or mixed. But letting the DIC do the heavy calculating is the best way to see your overall MPG IMHO. I never get those receipts to add up totals...that's way too much work for me!

 

Ok, so my point wasn't just...pointless. My idea of city driving is basically anything not on a highway. highway driving is JUST THAT, driving on a highway. Maybe that's why my figures are higher than a lot of others - because I figure it a little differently. bottom line is.....I'm quite satisfied with the mileage I get, even though it's lower than my last car ('05 Aveo).
