I bought my 2008 from the original owner who kept all the paperwork for the car. He has two paper tags in a folder that he said the dealer told him was a code that they could use to program a replacement fob for the car. Cant find any info on this either here or in the owners manual. The tags have a bar code on them and a five digit code under it that starts with the letter "G". Anyone know what this code is used for? Im wondering if a third fob could be programmed with this code without reprogramming the two originals.

 

It is probably the key code. Nothing to do with the fob. Might have something to do with OnStar

 

I've got one of those tags on my spare key/fob. Mine also starts with a G. Has an asterick on each end of the number.

What's it for ? You got me. A call to your local dealer parts counter will probably get you an answer.
