key fob program
one of my key fobs has bit the dust,
I have obtained one from my daughter in law who totaled her HHR
question is how to make the car recognize it I do not want to pay a
dealer 100 bucks to program the car.
any suggestions ?

There is lots of info here that might help you out. Use the SEARCH function at the top of the page and look for key fob.
As long as the circuit board in your old "broken" remote is working (ie: it's not a dirty or worn contact button problem), you can try swapping the circuit board from your older fob into the newer one and see if that works.
The SEARCH tool will also list out numerous threads discussing the various ways of fixing dirty/worm contact buttons. Give it a try - it works.
Other than that - "how to make the car recognise it" - you have to go to the dealer to program the car to recognize the new fob (or a locksmith that has the programming capability - and that isn't an easy find).
