Keyfob question - not about reprogramming

2009 HHR - This question does not ask how to reprogram my keyfob. I make that disclaimer so I don't anger the gods!

I just bought this 2009 HHR 2LT.

The remote start works, the lock button works on the driver's door, the unlock does not work on any door, and the horn/alarm button works. I have two remotes that do the same thing so I don't think it's the button.

Anyone seen this?

Does a DEALER reprogram help?

Inquiring mind wants to know.

My guess is the plungers are getting fouled by something. Sometimes the hole needs enlarging, sometimes the trim panel has been reinstalled with no regard for proper routing.

Does the driver door button work? Do all doors lock when you put the trans into drive? Is the auto locking set up the way you want it in the DIC? (in the Owner Manual)

A dealer programming only matches the car to the fob, it is a rolling code like a garage door opener. There is a longshot that somebody replaced the RCDLR without installing the right firmware.

The lock button will lock all doors remotely.
All doors lock and unlock with the shift lever which is how the DIC in programmed.
Plungers go up and down freely.
Unlock button does nothing on either keyfob.
Alarm button works.
What is the RCDLR ?

Maybe both unlock buttons have gone bad. You can test by taking the circuit board out of the fob case and try connecting the contacts with something metallic. You can do that keylessfix thing or just put a piece of tin foil under the pad or get a new case all cost about the same (except the free tin).

Push unlock once to unlock driver door, push it a second time immediately after and all doors unlock.

My two key fobs acted up, bought ones on Ebay. Replaced the batteries in both, no problems after that.

Me too, just soldered up the battery cage and replaced the rubber key pad.

How does a battery cause 1 button to malfunction consistently?
