You may want to look at Spiderlites; http://spiderlite.com/ . They get great reviews, and were a SEMA new product winner.

If we turn out a lens setup, you can bet it will compliment the vintage lines of the HHR - not make it look like a rocket wanna-be. We're just thinking about people who want to customize their vehicles, and LED taillights is one area many people will want to upgrade.

Still...it may or may not happen.
Good idea! Thats just the first thing that pops into my head when I think LED tail lights. I have been kicking around the idea of putting blue dots in my brake lights but I think they are illegal here in N.Y.. I can't find a definite answer.

We've already seen them. While they won a design award at SEMA - they are no where near as bright as the bulbs we tested. Even the brightest of the bright bulbs were not bright enough in the HHR housing (see bottom comparison shot at beginning of post). A new reflector design will be necessary to increase light output to safe levels.

I am also, contemplating, putting Blue Dots into the existing tail-light (cover). From Street Rods, definitely a trick loo, and Yes I have heard they are illegal in general, (If a Police-person wants to be a pain). But my thoughts, are that if you are not being dangerous, with your vehicle and driving paterns, most police will leave you alone on customized items (unless un-safe), Not real sure about you Captain Howdy, sounds like the police may like looking for you!! A lot of customizations to vehicles are illegal, if a police wants to ticket you, lowering, tints, lighting, loud mufflers, etc....

Is it easy to pull, the tail-light cover?? If so, future plans of mine are too install Blue Dots. Many old version tail-light lens for 30-40's vehicles are available with Blue dots for easy replacement, maybe soon for the HHR, but replacement lens, may not be yet, readily available.

The neatest thing I've seen on the tail lights is a thin chrome surround ring. I think one of the show cars had that, but I've never seen them offered.

Thats kind of another thing that is causing me not to do it. Blue dots are available from a couple of places but I'm afraid that if I drill and install them on my HHR that another set of tail lights will not be available if I do get in trouble with the police. I love they look, they only cost like $5, and you only have to drill a hole to install them. I should do it just to see if I can get away with them. I already drive around with my tint so dark you can't see in listening to loud music while driving fast, so whats one more strike against me.

CJ Krause did it with chrome molding that you can buy at a auto parts store.
