I figured I would do it myself, so I've bought one of these on eBay, paid 85 dollars and after I pay the 40 dollars to ac delco for the update, it would end up being the same price (or slightly less) than towing it to the dealer and letting them do it. I will keep you guys updated. Should be here within the next week.

Maybe you could provide a link to the eBay listing. That looks like it might be just a code reader. Hard to say for sure, that page you linked to is poorly written. Pay $40 to ACDELCO? I've never heard of that.

It's just the hardware interface to emulate tech2win to perform the functions you would normally use a tech 2 for. It allows pass-thru programming but you have to pay for the updatea from ac delco, which is 40 dollars per vin I think. Here is the specific one I bought, it was the only one left in the USA, so I didn't have to wait a month for delivery. I am a computer programmer by trade, this seems way more in my wheel house than normal mechanic stuff lol.

Unless you have the old BCM you have legal problems. The odometer reading is stored in memory and must be transferred. There are federal and state/provincial laws involved.

Wouldn't you just mark non-actual miles on the title when registering it? I don't see how this would ever be an issue or who would ever know. It's no different than if your cluster went out back in the day and it the mileage was off. I've had vehicles before with wrong mileage and nothing has ever happened.

According to Ohio state law, you must check the box on the back of the title that reads “WARNING Odometer reading may not be actual"

Also, according to federal law "when the car in question is 10 years old or older, it is exempt from the written disclosure requirement." The HHR is 11

The new BCM has 30k more miles on it than the actual car, Couldn't I just say I drove it 30k miles? lol
