looking at a 08 ss tomorrow afternoon

Hello everyone, I am brand new to the hhr forums. Name is ken and I'm looking for some help. I am going to check out a 5-speed ss tomorrow and would like to know if there is anything hhr-specific to inspect. I told the dealer that want to put it on a lift, no problem he said. I am a car guy(corvettes) so I'd like some tips from you veteran owners. thanks

Most would say get one with an LSD , Maybe , Having driven both mine (non LSD ) Seems a little more hands on .
Not better , Not worse , Differant. Does that help you in the slightest ?

Welcome to the site !!

Is there an extended or rectification on it. If its under warentee Drive it but act like you dont want it. Tell them there is no deal without the stg1,and you don't want to pay for it, Chevy should have made it that way. And keep leaving without it till they sell it to you lower $$ with stg1. This could take a while some one else might drive right up and buy it. But it was there when you came by and we are still in a foggy economic season they probably need good business now good luck make sure you test out the boost should hold 15 on the little gauge thingy.

Welcome to the group. If you want to check for the Limited Slip Differential, check the silver RPO tag on the inside of the glovebox door. There will be a coded list of options. If option G85 is listed, then the HHR SS has the LSD option.

Also, an easy check for the Turbo Upgrade is to look at the upper TMAP sensor. It's easy to spot as soon as you open the hood, just aft of the radiator support. If it's black with multicolored wiring and 2 bolts holding it down, then it's stock. If it has a blue Bosch label, has all white wiring and 1 bolt holding it down, then you have 30 more ponies to run (as per GM's claim) and 55 more ft/lbs of torque to spin.

thanks for the reply, Batman, everything helps when you don't know the vehicle. I could quote you reams of facts and figures for mid year corvettes, but I am in deep water in the land of hhrs

thanks for the welcome and info ss fan. But, whats a stgI? Is it a chip or a tune? I could tell you about holley carbs, or AC 44n plugs but I see I have a lot to learn. Thanks again for the advice, PS They're asking $15895 for an 08 with34k miles. Sound ok. I"m going to start at $14000 and see if they like that

Thanks 87 silver. We all need all the horsepower we can get. Actually, the car is not far from you, its in Goshen. Thanks for the tips, the salesmen rarely know about LSD's or factory up grades, just money.

OK, non SS HHR guy here, as a practical matter make sure to run a CarFax on it to see if its had an accident. These vehicles can and do get driven in a spirited manner, you want to avoid one that has been "rode hard and put up wet".
