Loved It But Time For A Change

I had 99649 miles on "Little Red" and was ready for a change.

Bought a 2014 Camry LE. Drove around yesterday and put 200 miles on it
and averaged 32MPG. Like the ride also.

The HHR was a great little car and only spent about $150 on it outside of regular maintenance and wear items.

Enjoyed it here but time to go join a Toyota forum.

Another HHR leaves the fold, it's been great having you here Deke, and don't be a stranger...check in from time to time OK.

P.S. Congrats on your new ride.

I know this is a pro-HHR website, and I have contributed to it since mine was new in '07. Looking back on mine after 7 years, the marriage feels like it's over. My overall impression of it is not good, only fair. My main beefs: cheap brake rotors that warp, squeaky drum brakes (they should have all come equipped with disc, imo), horrible cup holders, poor visibility (I knew that going into it), sheet metal too thin, a suspension "clunking"noise I've had since it was almost new ($2100 in maintenance later, it's still there), horribly-dim interior lighting for the front seats - a joke really, and lastly: built in Mexico (I knew that going in). I have bought my last new GM car. The gov't buyout, and now the move to invade China, taking even more jobs overseas, has left me bitter about this relationship with them - one I've had since I was 16.

What I do like about it: styling, the heated front seats are awesome !

My 06 has 128K miles. Brakes were replaced at 92K no issues prior or after. I suspect stomping on the brakes to stop is the issue. Shock/struts replaced at 70K, no issues prior or since. Thin metal, yes, but all cars today are either plastic or tin foil. Cup holders a PITA, but something I could adapt to. Window switches in the center console also something I could adapt to. The car still averages 30 mpg with mixed driving. Doesn't use oil even after 11K miles between oil changes. But when I bought it, it was $14K (paid in full) out the door.

Any replacement similar "SUV" is $25-28K, made in Korea (Buick Encore). Ford Escape has had fires and other issues ($25-26K). KIA Sportage, Hondas are all in the same price rage.

Not much out there that I find appealing at a price I'm willing to pay.

What did you replace your HHR with?

Not sure if you were asking me, or the OP. I plan on keeping mine until I drive it into the ground. It's paid for and not worth much, so I might as well.
