Was in Operations. Started 19 years ago as "Christmas Help" as a Carrier, then under a special year contract as a Carrier, then Full time Carrier, and worked my way up. I even ran a vehicle maintanance facility with 24 hour mechanic shifts and over 500 vehicles. When I 1st started in the early 90's there were about 900,000 employees. We are now down to about 500,000. If the 5 day Work Week goes into effect (we are 6 days a week now for delivery) in a year or 2 there could be another 40,000 employees terminated. It is not a pretty picture. There are many people retiring at the moment also so I may still have a shot to get a job back but it must happen within a 2 month period. For the moment my job doesn't exist.

Our government is so messed up (not the PO's fault-it's hands are tied in congress) they wouldn't even grant us a 2 cent increase in postage-2 measly cents. But the will bail every out including every country in the world.

Dang. Hopefully lot of people take the early out. Would they offer you a craft position? that is if you're willing to take it.

Unfortunately it is not that easy. Being semi private, the PO is still a gvmnt agency and is filled with protocol. There are 3 "rounds" of job placements under restructuring for those that kept their jobs but had them restructured and renamed, along with a 4th that has many "phases". Within that 4th if any craft positions are available I might be able to secure one. The biggest problem with that is those jobs may be in trouble too because there was a nationwide freeze in hiring on full time positions. Although having a family I would take anything and am not afraid to work.

Sorry on the job! I know the feeling and it is hard to take.

As for the mailing I got one on my Fiero not long ago that I have owned for 25 years. The state is selling DMV name list to raise money.

It's a shame the PO is legally bound with privacy acts that no list information can be sold. Think about how much money could be made with the supreme of all list of every household in the 50 states...

Just found some info:

Personally, I like getting letters from dealers. Lets me know how special my car is

What I do miss is when the have giveaways to get people to come in. I would go every time. I don't know what I did with all those free ice chests and cheap tool sets I got. I haven't gotten a letter for something like that in a long time.
