Mileage Remaining After Fill Up

Mileage Remaining After Fill Up
Everytime I refill the tank, I reset the whole dash. Both trips, Average speed, MPG and the whole thing.
Today after i started it up, my total miles remaining was at 334, it has been in the 370's and seem to be slowly going down.
What is determining this number after a refill? Is it me resetting it and should i leave it so it has something to base off the last set of numbers?

IMO the total miles remaining is a reading of the amount of fuel in the tank multiplied by the MPG. I have seen mine go up occasionally as I drive and my MPG increases. The computers on these new cars can calculate just about anything.

While sitting at the gas pump, fill up to 16 gal, reset the DIC so MPG reads 0 MPG.......
So 0 * 16 = 0, but yet the DIC reads couple hundred miles still remaing.

I think I may be screwing it up by resetting it all before i fill up. next time i will look at the numbers after fill up and before a reset and see what i get.
if has has like 22mpg on the DIC before fill up and leave it that way, it has somethng to go on. if i erase it all, it has nothing
If i went straight 334 miles by 16 gal give me 20.8 mpg

Then as you sit there or leave the mpg is going to change is it not. The MPG will be 0 until the computer takes another reading.

Well i think I'm the problem. I dug out the 1 inch thick manual I downloaded a while back. Says the fuel range is based on the fuel economy and what is left in the tank.
So if i am resetting before i fill up, it has nothing to base off. Well see next week.

the missing thing. is it AVERAGE mpg... when you reset is it going to use the last ampg... until it starts computing the new ampg. which could be a considerable different. depending whether you are coming off a high (alot of hwy) or low (city S&G)... look at your miles remaining right after you start your car and then a few blocks later.
by then it will have fuel flow info
miles remaining should also change with your speed 55 vs 75?
to compute miles remaining you need
amount of fuel remaining which is most likely a percentage in the computer such a 99% of tank capacity... say 16 gals
ampg read at intervals which is stored for the next miles remaining computation.
20 (ampg) x 16 (gals remaining) = 320 miles remaining
changing ampg to 30... miles remaining changes to 480
i know this is all my brain going back to my programmer days.... really don t have the input info to really figure it out so don t JIMS
