mounting a gps

Does anyone have any suggestions for a mounting location for a gps other than the windshield on a 2006 hhr?

I have mine between the vents on the waterfall just above the hazard switch. Im trying to find a picture of it as soon as I do ill post it up. Also try running a search as it has been discussed before and shouldnt be to hard to find.

I use velcro in the dash top compartment. The GPS velcros to the front of the compartment, and the lid velcros to the top of the GPS. Its very visible, out of the way, and in California its not legal to attach to the center of the windshield, so it keeps me legal too. Takes five seconds to take it out, when I park, nothing is visible, not the GPS, no mounts nothing.

I like mine just below/left of the mirror, snug up close to it as possible so it almost becomes a part of the mirror. That's the least distracting location as it's natural to glance at the mirror and gps at the same time. Anywhere else feels like I'm taking my eyes off the road too long.

If I don't need to follow it, I'll just let it sit down by the cup holders and play with it when I'm stopped.

I installed mine inside the dash compartment. I drilled a hole for the power cord, wired it directly to the fuse panel, installed the self adhesive round mounting disc that came with my TomTom, and walah, when I want to use the GPS, I open the lid and raise it up, when I don't want to use it, you can't tell there is one in the car.

BTW I thought it might bug me for the compartment lid to be open while going down the road, but it doesn't block any view of the road and doesn't bother me in the slightest. The fact I can close the lid and there aren't any wires hanging anywhere is a plus for me, as I have had a GPS stolen from another vehicle before.

Target has a nice carrying case for portable GPS units that is weighted and doubles as a holder. I use that so I can keep all the cords inside the case and transport it from vehicle to vehicle.

That's where I have the head for my ham radio, my GPS has a bean bag and I put it on the top storage box.
