Proof-positive that the car DOES make a difference in a crash!

My 09 SS is, thus far, the most enjoyable new car I've had.. It has met or exeeded all of my expectations. And I really don't think I will ever tire of "looking at it" either--Chevy nailed it on this one!

I have had many new cars in my lifetime. The BMW 320i I had in '84 was really good--but it's rear seat was quite small.. The majority of my new rides were rather boring: Mazda truck, Chevy Lumina Van, Chevy Astro Van, Chevy Suburban, Volvo wagon (2), Honda Civics (2) Accords (2), Volvo S40, Jeep Gr. Cherokee V8 and Jeep Wrangler (was fun off-roading),, and even an Olds Cutlass...

I think the most exciting past car was my 57 Chevy Bel Air 2dr HT with the 283--I had a blast with that car...

Bottom line: The HHR is a great vehicle in any configuration.. The SS is, IMHO, an incredible value for the $$.... It IS the 1st car that I have EVER cleaned (detail spray) after each drive (maybe I just have too much time??)

First off, hello to everyone from a newbie making his first post! Chief, sorry to read about the bad news. I actually fell asleep at the wheel back in July and totaled my 06 LT 2 that was a birthday present to myself in October of the previous year, so I know what you're going through. I am walking proof of how safe of a vehicle the HHR is. Both the police officers, and the body shop that my HHR was taken were surprised that not only did I walk away unharmed, but that I walked away period, and that the airbag did not go off. Fortunately, insurance took care of that one, and a week later, my wife and I were driving away in my 08 LT2, that we actually got a better deal on than the first one! The only downsides are that I had to settle for one without the roof racks, or the rear spoiler, so now I'm trying to find those pieces so hopefully they might end up as birthday or Christmas presents from my wife!

Totaled my '08 LS in Oct (pics in gallery). Also walked away with only injury being the emotional loss of good car. Bought new SS in Nov. World of difference, 99% good. Only complaint (??) is that the modifications are limited because it came with everything that I had changed on the LS. However, tune kit is in future plans. (PM me if you want the 1% that is not better in the SS. It's not the brake issue either)

Well guys, i have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that they totaled my HHR and i will be getting a new car. The bad news is that it won't be an HHR. I went back to my dealer to look at some 09 HHR's. I seen a nice Cardinal Red 2LT in the back lot that i wanted to take for a ride. To get to the HHR he had to move an 09 Malibu 2LT. The car caught my eye and i took it for a test drive. The Malibu realy blew me away. Then i took my Bride to be to look at it and she fell in love with it also. I will be picking it up on Monday. I Loved my HHR and in the future i might be picking one up as our second car. Chevy did hit a home run with this new Malibu though. It ain't your grandpa's Malibu.

That's great Chief79! I hope they gave you the $ that your HHR was worth... I think the 09 Mailbu is a great choice also. My son has his eye on them right now also as his first new car when he starts his new job after college graduation in June. What color did you get? I love the white, and of course I am kind of digging that Red Jewel tintcoat color!
