I am supposed to take off for an 8 hour trip in 4 hours and still need to sleep.

I know there is a simple way to unclip the wiring harness connectors for wiring a hitch to the taillights... but I can't figure out the locking mechanism at this moment.

Can someone please tell me the trick to this before I go insane?

I figured it out... I apparently wasn't lifting the locking mechanism far enough is all... I didn't want to break it.

It was when I was to the point of just break it and let's get this going that it made a clicking sound and stayed "open" for me to pull the two sides apart.

 

For anyone who needs help with their clip in the future... here is the pic finally for the clip I was having trouble with.

As I stated above... you just need to lift the locking clasp up away from the body of the clip. You will think you are going to break it and all of a sudden it will audibly "click" and stay up for you to separate the two plastic pieces. Once you insert the T-connector or new light clip the pieces will "click" back together.
