Anybody have any experience with the SS in snow since I am leaning towards that option.
I have 4 16" snows on steelies on my SS. Yes the SS has 18" all season tires. The 16" snows are 65 series and they actually have the same circumference as the 18". They do fit over stock brakes but not the Brembos. It's my DD.

I bought the 2009 HHR SS today. What type of car did you get the rims from and what size and brand of tires did you use?

Stock 16 inch HHR rims fit the SS , except ones with the Brembo option!
I have non Brembo SS rotors and calipers and the stock 18 hole steelies fit!

What did you do about the tire pressure monitoring system? Do the winter rims need to have the in place or can you run without them?

Ive got an 07 LS so no TPMS , but you could put a set of sensors into your new winter rims

Thanks for all the help. I ordered 18 hole rims from the salvage yard today and new tires. Everything should get here on Thursday. Hopefully they all work together and everything fits so I can get some miles on it without worries. It looks like our next chance of snow is next Tuesday, so I guess we'll see what happens.

You will love the car. You will hate watching it rust!

I've had mine since Dec 16, 2009, one trip to the dealer body shop for the doors and hatch cleaned and re-seam sealed, they said it was the dealer that did not adhere correctly and it was free , but that was in 2010!
No rust since! So, scrape and brush the doors seams and use Eastwood's rust encapsulation spray, or Por-15

This will be the second HHR that I've owned. I ordered a new one in 2006 with a 2.4L, which was one the first ones in the state. Sold it when my job changed so it never made it to winter with that one. Always wanted to get another one, so when I saw this SS, the wife said we should get it, who am I to argue with that. Now I just have to keep my foot out of it before I get a ticket.
Once I get it up on the hoist, I will try to coat everything I can with POR 15 including those pesky inner door seams.
