New NY State Window Tint Law

NY state has enacted a new law as of Jan 1, 2017.

They have elected to outlaw window tint from cars back to 1990 and front windows of SUV's. They say it is to make it safer for the police when they approach a vehicle.

Ok, I understand that and I am all for making the cop's jobs a bit safer.

https://dmv.ny.gov/registration/tinted-windows

My 2006 HHR came from FL and is tinted. I stopped off at the garage that inspects my car and my tint was too dark. They also mentioned that the front window can not have tint as well if it does it must be no more than 6" of viewable tint from the top. Which mine is.

Needless to say I removed the tint.

But it is rather cold high 30's to 40's today. So when i took the tint off the glue remained.

I searched but only see how to install tint, and I'm not keen on taking steel wool to my windows.

Does anyone know another way to remove this glue???

Did you check YouTube? They have quite a few reviews of different methods - and what seems like the best way:

Soap and water + razor blade. Had to do that before.
Drivers side on my truck bubbled after 14 years. Peeled the tint, then removed the glue with the above method.
Last year the passenger side bubbled after being on for 18 years. I could not get the tint to come off in one piece. Just keep flaking off in little pieces. Had to use the soap water/ razor blade to remove the tint and glue together. Took me 2 hours and my fingers were sore for days.

I edited the Original Post to remove political commentary in keeping with our "No Politics" policy here, and I've added a link to the NY DOT so that Members in New York State have a direct link for their information.

There is actually a mark on the windshield below which you cannot tint. It is those arrows you always wondered about.
