New windshield cost
Yesterday on my way to work a truck threw up a rock at my windshield. Not just a rock chip but before I got to work (only about 10 minutes away) taking the freeway, the crack went from close to the bottom to the top and also at the bottom starting going left and right. I didn't worry about it and thought it would cost $150 to $200 to replace it. Boy was I surprised when it would cost between $475 to $575 to replace the front windshield. I was told that with the car being so new that is why it is so expensive and not very many HHRs on the road. Be prepared if you have a $500 or higher deductible with your insurance.

Does your insurance allow for an "All glass coverage" option? I have always had them, with no deductible. Check with your company to see if it can be added after this is over. It has been a money saver for me.
Our Buick Rainer and HHR have severely pitted windshields from just a short period of use. Windshields are purposely soft. At a certain point they will be replaced because they will be dangerous to look through as the spot patterns become blinding whilst looking towards the sun.

My windshield was replaced shortly after purchase. The dealership had picked up my car from home to fix a few fine scratches not noticed during delivery (it was raining). In transit to the dealership it received a nice crack right in the drivers view so they replaced it. Shortly after I received a very small stone chip on the passenger side that isn't very noticeable so its staying for now. HHR windshields (for lack of a better word) suck!
