Unhappy Ouch! Nuts and Acorns.....

I have a lot of oak trees, big ones, and they drop large acorns from waaaay up. My old Grand Marquis wasn't fazed. When I got Elvis the HHR, I immediately got an acorn dent in the hood, and there is nowhere else to park that doesn't have big oaks. I went to "Northern" and got one of the moveable heavy duty tarp-top carports. It works great. In my location, it isn't bothered at all by big storms (hurricanes), and we had quite a bit of snow this year with no problem. Yeah, it looks a bit cheap in the yard, but it really protects the car from sun, snow, rain, etc.

Indeed, I noticed that the HHR has extremely thin sheetmetal. Only a Miata is thinner in my experience. I have also noticed how the body structure squirms around turns (put your hand outside over the door/roof joint as you drive).

I am driving a rental '11 Camry while Elvis is in the hospital. I did the same test....no body squirming or movement. That car is 200 pounds heavier than Elvis, and all of it must be in unibody structure. No flex. I also noticed that the car is faster than Elvis, and it has a 169 hp four versus the HHR's 172 hp four. I figured it out.....the Camry has a 6 speed auto with a smoking low first gear, plus a good overdrive on top. I have been surprised....that Camry is quite a refined car. As I told a friend, I am embarrassed to say that about a Toyota - it's like telling my doctor I eat a pound of Crisco for supper every night! I have never owned a foreign car, but that rental Camry is a nice ride.

God Bless, Marc
