So reading around I have heard some bad things about aftermarket lugs. Anyone running these specific lugs on their HHR ?

Can't comment on the quality, but I would imagine about average.

I'm wondering since they look to be a hex design, why do they need a key?

I think the description says that the set comes w/ several lock options so it probably has 16 regular hexes, then 4 requiring the key- 1 for each wheel.

I do. I purchased these about two year ago. I like how contrast the black color with the polished rims.

Stay far away from these. I had these on mine but the chrome ones. 3 stripped out on first tire rotation without using air power. Chrome flaked off within a few weeks.
I ended up getting Gorilla's. Still not the best but 1,000 times better than them Dorman's.
