obd2 code scanner

hey guys, what code scanner are you using? i'm not familiar with these cars and i've been useing a VAG COM (VW specific) interface/software on my VWs for years. after taking krista's car to the dealer today, i have little to no confidence in them and granted no CELs are on, i'd like to find a GM specific tool for scanning codes and doing anything related to the computer.

the VAG COM scans everything including battery life, you can do TB alignments and all sorts of cool things. i want one like that because the dealer today is saying that they need to mess with the computer to attempt to fix her remote start etc... i want to be able to cross check and diagnose things myself because i hate stealerships

http://www.actron.com/product_detail.php?pid=16150, if I knew anything about computers I would have gone with www.autotap.com instead.

Here's a good OBDII info link www.obdii.com .

I am in the same boat as you are. I had a new beetle and traded it in on our HHR. After using the Vag-com for a year, I miss not having that information.
I have been doing a little research and found this -

http://www.autotap.com/

I have not purchased one yet. I am getting ready to sell my vag-com cable. Thinking about putting up on e-bay.

What kind of problems is she having with the remote start?

Don

I love it. not only can you check and clear fault codes, but you can view 4 different things at the same time while you drive. lets you see every thing that gose through the ECM. You can even make the screen the same color as the dash lights.

thanks for the PM back, you've got another!

the remote start is intermitent in 2 areas. A) lights turning off when started/not turning on and B) car dying right after using remote start. i'm going to check out autotap thanks for the heads up. i wish VAG COM worked on chevy but hey, utopia doesn't exist right? haha
