The way it drives...
Ummm....I hate the way it drives...the steering is so loose and wishy washy and the handling is pretty poor but I am coming out of 3 new Mazda's in a row (Protege 5, RX 8 and the CX 7)and love the drive of a Mazda but the hubby has Fords/Mercury's and I even like the drive better in those than the HHR. Is it because I got it used and someone may have beat it up?? It's an 2006 LT. I drove an 07 loaded one and liked it better but still nothing like my Mazda's!! I had to trade down for financial reasons and would have bought a Mazda 3 or 5 but I needed more storage space/utility, better MPG and the Mazda's were actually too pricey with less MPG.
Wish I could fix the steering in it or whatever! Lots of dinks in it too when I bought it..some I fixed... so someone did not care for it too well, hence a lower price. Love the styling and ability to customize it! how come I can't add a photo...no manage attachments or anything in the additional Options when I post...anyone?

Well at least I know it can be done on an SS. I have a 2LT. That post still didn't provide much how to or a write up with pictures of the steps. That of been nice of him...
I don't like how my SS doesn't exist yet.
On the plus side my dad was looking for a vehicle to replace his minivan and I suggested the HHR. He test drove a 2.4L and liked it, but wasn't impressed. I suggested to him an SS... and the next day he called me up and told me to stop by to check out the SS he had bought. Even in the color I was lookin' to get.
Oh well. He's letting me borrow it this weekend so I can take some pictures of it. I hope to get mine as a birthday present to myself.

I spend alot of time in my work HHR, we can even use it for personal use and take full advantage.
I drive anywhere from 2,500-3,500 miles a month for my job in it and since I spend so much time in it I can tell you with certainty what I can complain about:
The center mounted PW switches
The short windshield when at a stop light (sometimes feels like I'm looking at the porthole of a tank...lol). The huge A-pillars are kind of a pain to look around also but you do get used to it. It's amazing how huge the windsheild of our Mercury Mariner looks when I drive it now!
The armrests aren't in that great of a location. Have to swing it up to put on my seatbelt and the tight cup holder area but I got used to it.
The cruise control. When climbing a hill on the intestate it disturbs me how it will downshift 2 gears and shoot up to 5500 RPM. Can't be good for it.
The tall door lock knobs don't bother me much since I rarely have my arm there but since there is nowhere else to put my left arm on long trips, the hard plastic door armrests don't do much good for my elbow. Some padding there would be nice. I found that carrying a washcloth with me to rest my elbow there helps alot.
I wish the steering wheel would tilt down one more notch.
I am getting a new '09 next month so it will have some improvements like the door mounted PW switches, better center console design, remote start, and auto-dimming mirror/compass so I will be happier. I am going to get some "fish-eye" add on mirrors to put on the side mirrors although I have gotten used to the limited visibility and rarely ever use an over the shoulder glance. The best part is that it will be Aqua Blue with a black interior..should look cool even though it will still be an LS with the ugly hub caps, silver painted grille, and black plastic mirrors. Oh well, at least I don't have to pay for it so thats the best part!

I also did not care for the engine noise, but i installed a new sub and amp... now i cant hear the noise, but my rearview mirror shakes a lot. oh well! the tall locks and the lame cupholders are a pain as well. but hey, i found a station wagon that girls actually like
