Opinions needed, Model year choice for HHR Panel

quick question for all those who know about these cars.

I need to add a vehicle to my company and I think size wise the HHR is my best bet. I know NOTHING about these and hope to get some advise.

Without a large budget to work with in buying a panel version of the HHR, which should i go with.

Older 2006-2009 Lower mile HHR
or new 2010 + High mile HHR?

Any specific years to avoid? anything in particular to look for? I am extremely mechanically inclined so other then internal engine or transmission, most repairs are something I can do myself.

I generally like to run my work cars way up in miles and am happy to do any and all routine maintenance, currently passing 380k on my 2008 dodge (non diesel!)

Thanks in advance

to the forum!

You're going to get more than a few opinions here, but here's mine to start.

2006 - No panel version made, takes it off your list right away.

2007-2009 - Right in the middle of production, and based just on my experience, very dependable even as the miles pile up. Low mile units drying up depending on where you look.

2010-2011 - Maybe a slight slip in quality post bankruptcy, but plenty of low to moderate mileage units are now on the market. High mile units may be ex-commercial and show it in expensive ways.

As far as what to look out for and what can go wrong, give this excellent thread by my fellow Moderator whopper a read, tons of info to help you make your decision.

The 2011 panels were only built in LS trim.

Taking the 2.0 on the SS out of the equation as it doesn't appear you're looking for a Hot Rod. If I had it to do all over again I'd look for one with the 2.2 EcoTec. Hey wait a minute, I have the 2.2, so I guess I have no regrets.

I just picked up a '09 Panel 50,000 km on it. Original owner was a national electronics retailer that wrapped them at purchase. The paint is as close to new as you could wish for with the exception of one door that had been damaged and repainted. (This caused issues with clearcoat coming off when the wrap was removed for the resale). The dealer I bought it from sorted out the door.

This one drove like brand new on the test drive. Not one out of place noise anywhere.

Keep at the research here on the forum. Keep your eyes peeled and don't be afraid to go for a drive to have a look at one that is promising. With your research here you will be somewhat educated on the common issues you could point out to a dealer to have sorted before you lay down any of your hard earned money.

You don't say what type of business or what type of driving the vehicle will take. I might look at the FORD Transit Connect. If you need to carry outside ladders, there are no ladder racks I have found that match the HHR styling.

The HHR you will find is smaller than your Dodge truck; I downsized myself from a FORD Ranger Long bed and had to make some adjustments. I'm overall happy with the HHR.

Oh, I looked at the panel too, before I bought a non-panel.

For a business you may want to look into an interior cage between the driver and cargo and this roll out tray!!!
