I have heard it is coming out for the '09 models but that's all. I have not seen one on the '08's. It is a fished eyed mirror for better sight on the passenger side I think.

Found the following about the mirror for the 06 Avalanche so it must have been in use for a few yrs on other models, seem something about it listed under the 06 Silverado also.
Changes to the '06 Avalanche are evolutionary and reflect Chevrolet's commitment to continual improvement and customer input. The most prominent of these is a revised 'RV-style' extendable outside rearview mirror that is available on Avalanche 2500. This new, vertical mirror has a larger glass area and manually extends outward to provide a greater view when towing a trailer or camper. A convex 'spotter mirror' glass also has been added to the mirror.
