I found this site after my wife's '06 had the shifter knob issue that causes the key to be stuck in the ignition. I was able to remove the key from the information I found here and she had the shifter repaired at the dealer, Yes she has the extended warranty, just bought the car in Nov. last year.

What I would like to know is there any other issues I need to be on the look out for concerning this vehicle?

The problem you've had has been complained about quite a bit. Rattling steering column and warped brakes would be some others... and watch for water on the passenger side after rain or a noisy blower motor... the early HHR's were prone to a leak on the butyl patch that would ruin blower motors and/or resistors.
