Outside Temp Gauge
I work in an electronics business and create electronic circuits and design circuit boards. There is absolutely no good excuse for a company such as Chevrolet to make an algorithm so convoluted. For heavens sake your reading the temperature from a sensor! Who cares what the last reading was! I only want to know what the temp is right now. What does it matter if I even drive the car? When I turn on the switch it should show the current temp.
This part of their code cant be more than 6 lines long. If it is then its highly over engineered. You don't really need to measure the temp that often anyway.
Can you tell mine doesn't work correctly either??? Started out at 32° and stayed there all day long even though it was really 70°. And yes I drove it, 25 miles on the interstate at 70mph, stopped and started at least 8 times that day.

Mine went wacko last week after I used a hose to clean some of the winter gunk out of the front of the car.
Stayed at 12 degrees Celcius for about 5 hours, even though it was 20 degrees Celcius outsiude. It's been eratic at times ever since.
Going to get them to look at it when I take it in for the recall.

here is my situation..... car sit all night about 14 hours... it was warm today thermometer stated 75.... anyway got in the car drove 30 minutes at about avg 35 mph.. the dic outside temp stated 50 degrees drove another 10 miles. at about 65 mph...temp gauge still the same.....finally it started to climb 50,52,54,59,65,68,70,73,74........it has done this several times.... one time it didnt even change....
so i guess am i confused, driving over speed of 20mph at several minutes i thought that was suppose to change it....to the correct. or did am i missing something.....or is that thing defective?

I got mine back last week and had a couple of items fixed. Outside temp was one of them. first they changed the sensor. that didn't do it. They finally had to replace the BCM. When I first bought the HHR the outside temp seemed to react quickly to temp change. Then 1 yr later it started sticking on the same temp for days. Now it seems to work but it is very slow to react to the temp changes. It does end up with the right temp it just takes a little longer

A good programmer writes the code to make something work. Then rewrites and rewrites to make the code small and fast. It looks like this guy did just the opposite. Read the temp sensor, that took just a few lines of code and he's gotta put in 7 1/2 more hours soooooo!

Yes ours is never accurate only after you have driven a number of miles and then slow to repond. Glad that the same Program writer did not write the Compass program algorithms . HOPE HE WENT TO WORK AT FOMCO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
