Pealing chrome on auto shifter

Pealing chrome on auto shifter
The chrome on the auto shifter handle is pealing and cutting the fingers of both of us. They are like paper cuts.
Is there a recall or a quick fix.
I haven't looked at how to get the handle off yet. Is it a simple removal or complex like her car. Thanks in advance.

I have to change the fuel tank in the kids Trailblazer, as the fuel pump dies and I just towed him back home.
Then the HHR fix.
Will replace the CHROME with Stick ON Carbon Fiber. The one used on the exterior of the car. Holds up well. Got a piece from the local wrap shop for free . Its only 2feet x 2 feet - to small for them. good for me.
