Auto Shifter Button Stuck!

I have the car over at the nearest dealer.
Shift button stuck IN. You can shift, but you cannot take the key out of the car or secure it safely. Weird problem, glad I have the extended warrantee, unless this is considered power train.
Hopefully I can rent a car and get to work tomorrow.
I have not had it two weeks yet, hope this is not portentous!

Matt

That is a common problem, at least with the 2006's. The shifter will need to be replaced. Do a quick search here and you'll see just how common it is. Doubt it would be covered under powertrain, but it is a known problem with these cars.

Maybe the same soulution, but not quite the same problem as the key getting stuck.

With the button stuck in, would it stay in park?

It would stay in park or drive with no issue. I was able to drive it.
This is a 2007 car, Odd, I tried doing a search but did not get any hits.

Actually, I think it is the same issue. On mine, the button was not completely stuck in, but by messing with it enought the key would eventually come out.

FIXED!
I got to the dealer this AM, to get the loaner and head to work. Asked to go and get the toll road transponder out of my car. When I got out to the car, the mechanic said, sure, go ahead, but I am Done Already.
I guess they can swap these shifters out easily. I also found .35 on the seat, I guess that was in there as well! Thank You P.O.!!!

Nice to drive my own car to work!

This is a new program that GM techs are participating in to help spur or sputtering economy on! Every .35 cents helps!

Hey, ChevyMgr, How hard is it to find out when this car was built, and how it was configured?

Not hard. What are the last 6 digits of the VIN and the year?

this is a 2007, 548976
Thanks,
Is there a reference for breaking down the VIN somewhere?
I have not found anything specific to the HHR in my searches.
Tanks!

Also, per the service mgr, the change did not come out of the shifter. So it must have come out of someones pocket. I will have to drop it in the night drop tonight.
