Personal Audio Link (PAL) - iPod
Personal Audio Link (PAL) - iPod
I saw this accessory listed at gmaccessoriesstore (link below) at $135.00 I was wondering 1) has anyone used this? 2) is it hard to install. I am not a big iPod fan however, I would get one if I can navigate the menu's via the stock stereo. I am a bit of a weekend wrencher so I don't have a lot of tools..
Here is what I am talking about..

I dont have one myself but have read posts of people who got it. From what I remember:
1. not many people have it.
2. yes its quite a wiring job and I think the computer needs to be flashed.
Also, they reported not liking it. Very basic controls, not the full ipod menu, difficult to navigate it.
The consensus seems to be either use the aux jack (this is what I do), or install a different head unit with many more options and use a module to interface with the steering wheel controls.

Thanks prod,
I will probably just skip it then. I can't afford to replace the stereo at this time and I rather like the way the factory one looks. Basic menus are not a problem, I really would only use it to listen to podcasts..

It's a plug a play unit as long as your radio has the CAT button.
No programming required, unless someone turned the XM feature off in the BCM, which in unlikely but has happened.
I believe you have to have the premium sound system.
It is time consuming to find your music using the radio buttons if you have a lot on your IPOD.

I have one and took it out...It was very slow when scrollinng threw the iPod songs and artist. No matter which iPod I used. Clunky as one member put it. Almost impossible to search for a song.
It was developed in 2006.
What you can get on the after market today is far superior.
Here is a Youtube video demo of the PAL in the HHR

There is a massive thread in Audio forum on this unit.
Cheers!

Mine came installed on my 07 and LOVE it. However, that seemed to be the best way to get it was to have it factory or dealer installed (mine was dealer).
NEVER had any problems with it and still works great 3.5 years later.
