I don't think ANY car made in the last several years, perhaps last couple/few decades will ever become a classic like cars in the past have become. I think the last cars that could ever be considered classics are the muscle cars of the 1970s or so.
There are certain cars made in more recent years/decades that will be more desirable and retain more value (such as Corvettes, etc.), but I don't see these cars becoming anything even close to the autos of the past. It just doesn't seem that modern cars with all their electronic parts and plastic pieces and all will ever be the same as autos that were purely mechanical and made of nearly pure metal.
There are certain cars made in more recent years/decades that will be more desirable and retain more value (such as Corvettes, etc.), but I don't see these cars becoming anything even close to the autos of the past. Low volume and high demand is all it takes. The bottom line is it is too hard to tell.
The day may come were a loaf of bread may have more value than a 70 Chevelle LS6 SS too. During the depression a lot of people dumped a lot of valuable cars for noting.
Time will sort out the valuable cars.

Okay I am on my 3rd HHR 1- 06' LS with 5 speed. 2- 08' LT2 2.4 auto 3- 11' LT2 auto 2.4 I want a SS should I consider the one I have has 36k miles left on warranty. Any thoughts should I keep dreaming and avoid any bad choice of trading up? Any thoughts on SS as a long term car, 858 864-2723 Ed

My 2 cents worth on the subject, My panels might be worth more than they cost new, but not in my lifetime.
I compare them to the Chevy Vega's - The Vega panel express are rare and hopefully worth more today than they cost new, 3-4 grand I guess. The Cosworth Vega's are classics in my book. Probably worth a bundle today.
Now if they made a Cosworth Vega panel ( HHR SS Panel) How much do you think it would be worth today? Something to ponder...john
