OK, so 3 years ago I had my Power Steering fail. Took it in to the local dealer who fought with me about changing the P.S motor under the warranty/recall. They finally did at no charge. Today I drove down to the bank (about 5 miles) and when starting it up to return home, The power steering message came on, and no steering. I shut it off and restarted it, and error was gone. No problems driving home. Anyone seen this after the warranty/recall was done? If I take it in to the dealer, are they going to do the campaign again for free? Luckily I don't have to drive to work every day (retired) but still don't want to get stuck somewhere without steering.
It depends on the part number they installed. If they installed the updated part number they won't do it. If they didn't bother to check and installed the old part they need to replace it.
It also depends on the exact error.
The correct re[placement part number is in the TSB/recall/warranty.
I gave them a copy of the TSB/recall/warranty and they ordered the part, but i never heard what they replaced it with. I assumed they used what they were supposed to for the N/C repair.
2010-2011 got the power steering recall. 2006-2009 gets "Special Coverage" that is basically a lifetime warranty. I don't see why a previous repair would matter; if it's broke they're spoda fix it, "for the life of the vehicle, regardless of ownership."
Ah yes, the joys of rural / small town life... I guess I will see if it happens again, and maybe a new battery. the one in there now is a bit old... only one Chevrolet dealer in town, the other dealer handles Ford, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep...
