Dear Peoples,

Where is the power steering tank and cap? I can't find them in my HHR and neither can the owner's manual. Please clear this up!

Actually, after researching I'll stick my foot in my mouth. I am wrong, the HHR does have electric steering, which utilizes electric motors and sensors to turn the wheels. Much like the system in the Malibu, but much better.

Ahhh....ok. Then just tell me, because that is how it was described on gm's website.

And I quote,

"Electric power steering with variable assist

Electronic sensors and computer controls allow for a specifically tuned level of steering assistance that varies depending on vehicle speed."

Everything is there but the electric motor which is the assist part, which I read on another website.

Opps this must have been buried someplace..I didn't see it.

Nope, you are correct, as currently explained.

My apologies. Your previous description with the plural for motor (motors), I thought you were supporting the drive by wire issue a lot of people believe.

My bad. I like people who research. You obviously, do.

Now, another issue for you. You do know it is still rack and pinon steering with a mechanical shaft attachment, right???

Peoples and Snoopy:

Better a foot in mouth than some wrong info. Thanks for getting to the truth on this.

Its cool, I just hate giving out wrong info and being unsure and my first post about the electric steering was rather unclear. Either way, yea I do know that there is still a mechanical connection to the wheels through the rack and pinion steering. What did you think I was an idiot?

Kidding, thanks for the info and making me check my thought process. Everyone needs to be corrected sometimes in life, well for me it may be more than sometimes

No! I hate the dumb drive by wire debate. When people hear the HHR has electrically assisted steering they automatically assume it means drive by wire. The HHR has electrically assisted rack and pinion steering just like all of the HHR's literature states.
