problems with xm radio
does anybody else have problems with xm radio employees? ive had so much truoble lately iam ready to cancel all my xm service they seem to not have a clue what they are doing........
Xm
When you call them tell them you want to talk with someone in the United States. I had a real problem with them a couple years ago and finally talked to a U.S. person and the matter got fixed. In other words, don't talk to Peggy.
Yes XM suffers badly from Peggy-itis, if you're patient and persistent you'll eventually get someone in the US. We've found that asking for a supervisor to escalate the call to another level usually works, you might have to work through two or three supervisors but you'll get there. In so many words, its an utter pain in the a**.
Worst customer service I've ever encountered. I like how they have a "Customer Care" phone number but won't do ***** for you. It took me over 18 months to get a refund processed from them for a double billing error on their part, and it was only after I got the BBB and the NY State Attorney General's office on them.
Extend your XM subscription for free...
I have a little story for all of you if you are interested in extending your XM subscription for free. All you need to do is call them, select the option for canceling your account, and then the rep on the line will try to get you to stay because they are desperate to keep subscribers. Here's how it worked for me for almost a year and a half with zero out of pocket.
When I first got my HHR I used the 3 free months of satellite radio. It was ok, but nothing i wanted to keep spending money for. So I called to cancel. I called and they offered me a whole year for half price (about 68 bucks at the time). So I figured what the heck, why not. During that next year I listened to XM, and when the year was up it still wasn't anything I was crazy about.
I called to cancel again, and I got the same song and dance as before. They asked my why I wanted to cancel, and I did not lie at all. I simply said that I had more important things to spend my money on, which was true. As a last resort, they offered me 3 more months for free to keep trying it to see if I would change my mind.
When those free 3 months were up, I called back wanting to cancel, and same thing. They didn't look at my account history at all, so when I said I had other things to spend my money on, they offered me 3 months AGAIN. This went on for year, no joke. No lies, no misleading them. Just the truth. I had other financial obligations.
Just a couple weeks ago, my 3 months were up so again, I called to cancel. The phone message said they were experiencing heavy call volume and that I'd be on hold for 15 minutes. Not even one minute had passed and an agent picked up, presumably a manager because he was obviously American, in a huff, and very quick to get me off the line. I gave him the same line about why I wanted to cancel, and this time he said he'd look back at my account history. I was almost laughing as he read off my history...credit on this date, credit on that date, credit, another credit, etc. What could I say, they just never bothered to check!
So anyway, Mr. Snippy said "Well, this obviously hasn't been a financial concern for you for some time. You're just not interested." Then I started to say hey, I told you guys the truth each and every time, but you kept offering me 3 more months so yeah, I said ok. But, before I could even say that he said "I'll just close out your account effective of April 1st. Have a nice day." CLICK.
So yeah, did I game the system? Yes. Did I really have other things I'd rather spend my money on than radio that was supposed to be commercial free, yet has more and more DJs talking over the music, more annoying commercials, and more frequent repeats now? Yes, I didn't want to pay for that.
Long story short: If you threaten to cancel, they'll ask you why and then try to offer you a deal to stay. Say no to whatever the first offer is, and then they'll more than likely offer you 3 months free to keep trying it out. That is, unless you get Mr. Manager on the line who picks up right away.

well i was in an accident with my 07 hhr it was my primary radio as i have 2 other radios with xm. i called and told them it was totaled out they said they would put it in limbo , and to call them when i got a replacement , so when i get the replacement i call them and get it turned on get the three months free , then they call before the 3 months are up and get me to extend it for 77.oo plus roralty fees of 11 dollars so i did it , i kept getting calls asking me why i canceled my hhr subscription , like 3 calls so i finally called them back and asked them why they kept calling about the hhr that was totaled out and not driveable, they didnt seem to know why, so as it turns out the hhr radio was never turned off i was still be charged for it , i told them again about getting the replacement , so they gave me a 48.00 credit. for that i told them to use it on one of my truck radios they said you dont have any other radios on , i was ready to pull what hair that was left on my head out .anyway i got it all figured out and then i get a bill for one of the trucks . they were charging me like it was a primary radio at full price , i went off on the person, and they got short with me and said if you dont pay this iam shutting ot off , and they did , so the next day i called back to get it turned back on and got a deal on it too ,its just such a pain to deak with them..
