Protection for under front bumper

You know that plastic molding under the front bumper? The thing that is so low that if you pull in to far into a parking space and the cement stop is just high enough to damage this molding? Is there some kind of guard you can put on the front to protect all this lovely plastic?

I really like the heavy steel bumpers on the 1949 chevy suburban.

Not really feasible. If you put a protection bar of some sorts, you would probably still have to mount it to some of that "weak plastic". It would most likely do more damage than before.
HHR's are short cars. Stop 3 or 4 feet short of the cement stops and you will still fit inside most parking spaces. Takes some getting used to, but that's how I do it.
Now that 49 Suburban, it's gonna need a whole parking space. Plus it was a lot higher off the ground.

protection

Thanks Firemangeorge

I have learned to stop before pulling in as far as I used to. I just hate to see my nice almost new 2011 HHR getting scratched.

It makes you want to cry.

Know what you mean. The SS being a little low in the front has gotten me a few times. I have to really be careful on some of the driveway to street transitions. Usually it's the gutter dip between the 2 that gets me.

You can go in another direction, however.

An electronic sensing devise is made just for this purpose. It's called "Curb Alert" and generally is produced in car specific packages. And usually is mounted on the lower bumper and adjusted for the "depth" of warning, which buzzes inside the car. Because it is produced in packages for specific vehicles you may not find one for the HHR. But you could purchase one for a Vette, for instance, and cut the wires to your needs. That appear to be the only difference I could find between the different vehicle packages. It sells for $159.00 with free shipping from at least one of the below (after linking, just insert Car Alarm in the search field)..

You can find them in the links below and they have videos demonstrating use and install.....

I've ordered one for my Corvette.

I have seen some tuner cars replace the plastic 'bill' or chin spoiler with a length of rubber seal that goes on the bottom of a garage door It looks good, and will not deform when you rub it into a curb

If you are talking about the front air deflector, I wouldn't remove it. It's there to assist in engine cooling.
