I think you can, but the wires are pretty short. It is not difficult to pop the trim panel off. Check on youtube for replacing the rear speakers.

Where in Fred are you. I'm around Harrison crossing.

I just looked on Rock Auto to see what the switch looks like

The side of the switch has 4 feathered tabs meaning it must be installed inside pushing out.
I went on GM Parts Direct and looked up door panel, it shows the finger well but no exploded picture of it.
Looking at mine, when you remove the cover for the finger well/door pull, there are two 30mm (?) torque bolts. There is a parting line between the finger well and door panel which could indicate it "might" pop out.
You could send a PM to hells hot rod, he parts out HHR's and might have a door panel off and give you some insight.
Sorry couldn't help you more.

PM Hells Hot Rod, he's a good person. Ask him if he can take a picture of the inside of the door panel. I looked on youtube and can only find how to remove the panel, but no good views of the switch area.
Other GM models can be taken apart without the door panel removed.

They are all the same year does not matter.

I'm stuck in a wheelchair, but I could coach you on removal.

Well take the panel off and document what you're doing. I'm sure a sticky could be made of it.

The door panel come off easily, the two T30 screws in the finger bowl, one hidden behind the round plug by the inner door handle. Then the little plug button on the rear edge of the door panel, pop the retainers , lift the panel up and off , careful with the handle cable.
