Regretting buying a HHR
GM needs something big. Really big. And I don't mean a monster truck.
Here's what I'd like to see: A totally solar car. A car with a solar skin. Absorbs energy from any angle in any light. Looks just like any other car but in fact is just one complete solar cell.
Who knows, maybe they're already working on it.
I agree with the idea that buying used is always a gamble. Any used car should be checked, rechecked and researched as much as possible. To totally trash a car manufacturer because you got a lemon used car is very shortsighted. You have no idea who drove the car and how badly it was abused by the previous owner(s).
My '09 HHR Panel was bought used. It had a couple issues that have been taken care of. It has given me eighteen months of virtual trouble free service.
I guess when you buy used you just gotta be lucky!

Yes, you 'should' be getting as good as new, but it is not 'guaranteed' good as new.
Always get a trusted mechanic's opinion on a used car if you do not have the skill set required to do it yourself.
And- I still stand by my statement that this is a dealer issue, not a manufacturer issue.
"You aren't supposed to worry about what happened before..."
King, your right, that's the way it SHOULD be. In reality surveys say buyers want X, Y & Z and under a certain price point. Engineers say sure, they can do that but will have to skimp on A, B & C. Dealers may not necessarily know that. And, I believe, by law, the only requirement is to sell you a car that passes a safety inspection.
Finally, consider this: Consumer Reports ranks Manufactures (make) as well as individual cars. Guess what, according to CR, is the most unreliable vehicle brand (It'll surprise you)?
The answer is BMW.

I have owned used cavaliers, used saturns, used malibu and never had issues like this... those were all pre-2005. Seems like quality took a back seat for a couple years, but the bad taste of this CPO rip off just makes me want to follow the rest of my family to Chrysler and Ford. (I know I said Rice before... but I can't bring myself to do that yet)
