RPMs and engine break in
RPMs and engine break in
I was driving the interstate yesterday ohh at about 50-60mph and decided to gun it, I watched the tach while the truck gained speed, 62000 rpms
... I haven't done a dead stop run yet, what does yalls tach read?
I am trying my best to keep the engine at low rpms, until I reach 3000 miles. I plan on doing its first oil change at 1500, 3000, & 6000.
I dont see what harm it can do, plus the 1st 2 oil changes are free, if the dealership will allow this.
I've installed many engines, and I am a firm believer on doing the 1st 3 oil changes at those mileages.
.
Anyone else out there doing this?

While accelarating to get on the interstate, mine often goes past 5,000 rpms. I was kind of shocked at that except it normally runs at almost 3,000 rpms at 75 mph. My other car ran at 2,200 at that speed.
Am I correct that the oil needs to be changed more often when the rpms are higher?

got back from a midnight run to Wallyworld, set the cruise on at 65mph, tach read at 2500rpms, 18-21 mpg, on the way home I drove 70mph with the cruise about the same rpms maybe 2600, 24-26mpg, got worse gas mileage going downhill than uphill, and terrible mileage rolling behind a semi about 6 cars back.
I have gotten 31mpg flat road with the cruise set to 65mph.
