Baby Steps

It seems like things are going along at a crawl but I am getting some critical things done. The rear trailing arms are complete except for some tack welding and I have narrowed the tire search down to what I think will be the actual tires I will use. I am using Moon SpeedMaster wheels, 7x17". The fronts will remain original, the rears will be widened to 8 1/2". The front tires will be 245/45/17 (25.6" tall) The rears will be 275/55/17 (28.9" tall) That should give it a nice rake while giving me enough rubber to not be able to light them up for too far. Dunlop SP Sport 5000 is the only manufacturer that makes both of the sizes so I can keep the same tread front and rear.

Okay so I haven't been on in so long that I get the "Come Back" E-mail and first thread I notice is your awesome build that my Uncle keeps trying to convince me I should do. I am supremely jealous.

That is going to be one handfull to hand on to. But fun. Are you going to drag it or is it for street? On the street that could be one COOL sleeper. Good job.

Street or Strip

This car will be a daily driver. The only thing I'm going to change will be the cam so it should not be over 325 hp. Won't be any different than your garden variety Z28 Camaro.

By the way, it is progressing slowly, I'm working on the sub frame mounting brackets and the rear coil overs now. I may have to re-vamp the rear crossmember because I'm not having much luck finding a gas tank that will fit in the area I have for it right now. However, I really didn't expect everything to work/fit the first time. This is the advantage I have working on a mule that the guys at Year One and Unique Performance didn't have..... time and the ability to change directions if I run into a problem. They only had 6 weeks to build the whole car. It should take 6 weeks to do the interior and paint on a car....forget about the rwd V8.

What about a fuel cell from a race car? I think there are various sizes. Though the capacity might be smaller than you want. Just a thought.

Fuel Cell

I took IMPALADAKID's recomendation and got the 16 gal fuel cell from Jeg's. It will fit wlith some modification to the rear framing. I'm having the rear wheels widened to 8 1/2". Once the wheels are done and the tires (275/55/17) are mounted I can locate the axle width and have the housing and axles shortened to the correct amount. The final pieces to the rwd puzzle have a lot of moving parts and it goes slowly.

Looking good.

Did you find an engine new enough tho allow you to be able to register the HHR once complete? Or atleast another method that will allow this so this CAN be a daily driver in California?

Registration

As I see it right now I have 2 choices. 1. Wait till the registration is due that requires a smog certificate and find someone that will certify it for the right price or 2. Use my cousin's Arizona address to register it there. In either way I will drive it till a smog certificate is due. I am leaning towards the California option.
