Service Airbag warning light
Service Airbag warning light
Ok I'm back. Yet another problem with my 2006 Chevy HHR. I cannot get over how many problems I am having with this car. It seem like it never ends. So this weekends project consisted of me removing the steering wheel to get to the clock spring. I had to reattach the turn signal cancel cam. That was routine and the signals cancel like they should. However, since I removed the airbag obviously, this has caused the service airbag warning light to come on. I discovered this when I get the car all back together and not assuming this would happen. The following I checked: #13 fuse on the fuse panel, the yellow deployment loop located under the drivers side floorboards. I think I know what the problem is.. on the back of the airbag there are two wires. On those wires are two harnesses. One is pink and one is white. On each one of those harnesses there are yellow locking clips. Being that they are so old, I broke both of them when I removed the harnesses. So currently they are not attached to the harnesses on my airbag. Could this be why I am getting a service airbag warning light? They are not attached to my harnesses because they are broken beyond repair. So just imagine the white and pink harnesses attached to the airbag only. If anybody has any idea could somebody let me know? I greatly appreciate it. I think anyone in advance that helps me.. Thank you.
you have disabled the airbag, so yes it needs to be serviced! The airbag connectors are "fool proof" They are made so that you can't accidentally blow up when you disconnect it, the yellow tabs are needed.
Is this the procedure you used?
HeyDon:) it's nice to hear from you. Here's some more info for you... I had the airbag out Friday...put it back in the same day and it was fine meaning no service airbag warning. Now it is Sunday...i took it out again...broke the clips...put the car back together and now I'm getting the service airbag light. Do those yellow clips on the airbag harnesses cause this?
I'm looking at the diagram you sent. Thank you for that. I will try this, I hope it works. I guess I can go to my local scrap yard and pull those yellow tabs off a donor car. Heck maybe I will pull the clock spring as well. Thank for your help Don:)
They are two yellow tabs. One for the pink connector and one for the white connector. They were so brittle that they broke. I broke one Friday and the other one I broke Sunday(tonight). So they are not in the car, they are in my garbage can. I think the pic you sent are the actual connectors I just mentioned. I'm talking about the yellow tabs that fit over the connectors and lock the connectors down
