Should my lady friend get HHR?

Hi there ladies and gents. I have been looking through the site for awhile and it looks like it has tons of useful info. I decided to register to ask a simple question: Should my girlfriend purchase 2006 HHR?

Here's the details: It is 2006 with approx. 9,800 miles on it. Looks to be in very good condition inside and out. Black exterior with minor scratches that I could easily hide. It is the LT (don't crucify me if I'm wrong, I'm new to the HHR) with 2.2 engine. It has the running boards, nicer rims, cd/mp3 player, etc. Sorry, I can't think of everything. Seems to be upgraded with everything but engine and suspension. It is a Chevy certified pre owned vehicle and the salesman told me that it would come with the 5 year/100,000 mile powertrain 3yr/36,000 bumper to bumper warranties. He said GM just released the 5 year/100,000 warranty incentive for certified pre owned.

Ok here's the answer to everyone's question.....they are asking $14,900 for it. I'm sure we can get a little off of that.

Please give me your honest opinions. I know most of you are enthusiast and lover your HHR's, but please list both positives and negatives. Anything that I should check or look out for? Any recalls I should have the dealer address before purchase?

Thanks for any help and hopefully if we get this I will become a regular on the site.

Welcome tneck! That sounds like maybe an OK deal. I'd difantely try to get a little more off. A brand new 07 isn't all that much more.

Doesn't sound too bad. You have a list of all the options? Chrome package, mats, etc?

If you can't get him down to 12 then i would walk, you can get an 07 for that price, just watch for deals, chevy changes the prices every week.

I agree, get him down to 12 something. A new one is not much more than 14,900 and it is a newbie !

Welcome to the HHr Site, You did the right thing by joining. all I can say is its a great vehicle I love mine I have a 2006 2LT and I now have 37,600 mile on it and I have had it for 1 yr. mine is loaded the only thing I don't have is On Star. if you have any Questions that are not answered here call the Consumer Reports at 1-800-536-8304 and they will tell you about how much the dealer paid for it and what you should pay, I know its use but it might help. You might need the Vin#

Good luck and my I say that you are looking a a very nice ride.

Gook luck and please keep us intouch

What is the powertrain warranty on 2007? All the sticker prices on the new models at the dealership were like $16,000+. Is there a cheaper model? The blue book value on this HHR was around $17,000, for what its worth.

Maybe there is something I am missing. Any tips on getting the price down?We are a younger couple (me 26 & her 22) and I don't think they take us completely serious at dealerships sometimes.

I really appreciate all the quick replies. I'm kinda hoping we can land this thing for a good deal because I like to mod cars and I've got some good ideas for this one. And I'm sure there are plenty of great ideas I can get off this site.

Models are as follows from lowest to highest: LS, 1LT, 2LT. A lot of dealers still have brand new 06's on their lots as well as 07's. Powertrain on the 07 is 5/100,000. Do you have financing already or are you going to deal with the dealer. If you can get your own financing simply walk in and say this is what I have and am willing to pay.
