No side airbags on mine. After my crash I still feel VERY safe inside the HHR
As small as these cars are I think they are built like a tank/

We have the side airbags because of my kids and my insurance only went up $16 from a 1998 Jeep Cherokee to our HHR. That was delightful because I have a near 15 year old who will be driving in driver's ed come March. We were VERY afraid of a huge increase in rates but with all the safety features and the only slight increase from car to car, we may be able to afford her on our policy!

I bought the side airbags on my HHR, which I ordered. Unfortunately, you also have to have ABS to get the side airbags. Which meant $400 for the side airbags and $400 for the ABS. I got my HHR before the side impact tests were out. If I had known that the HHR would get a five-star side impact rating WITHOUT the side airbags, I might have used the $800 for the sunroof instead.

On the other hand, if it gets five stars without the airbags then it must be awesome with the side airbags.

I got the side air-bag, because of the small size of the HHR and how close you sit to the doors and the large size of the other cars on the road

I ordered mine with the side airbags also for the reason that the window sills are so high and the top of the roof is lower than other cars. Plus for a small amount of money you have piece of mind for you and you passengers.

Deb, I think that pic of the Capt. is off his drivers license.

When I ordered mine, side curtain airbags were a must. Small price to pay if it helps prevent a bad head injury.
