It's been interesting seeing the types of postings going back to day one on the forum, and the changes over the years as the cars get older (meaning more things break) - and seeing new owners joining lately. Often with high-mileage HHR's, and trying to help them over the sometimes quirky things with the HHR's.

I do monitor the new members semi-frequently, and have noticed what I think is a lot of ladies joining lately - 843de, do you have any stats readily available regarding M VRS F membership over the years?

Ask and ye shall receive....

Bear in mind that this demographic data is a wee bit stale, but not enough to be off by more than a fraction of a percentage point either way.

Our female membership base has grown steadily over the years, and I'll try to put together a demographic curve that demonstrates the steady rise in female participation.

It may take a few days to gather the data, especially since I'm on the road(well in the sky really)all week.

Personally, I think that the growth of our female membership is a good thing, it means that our site is seen as being "approachable" which benefits us all.

For me its been all good lately. The replacement engine is still purring like a happy kitten but I still come on here and make posts. Some might be helpful but most tend to be my usual ramblings of days gone by.

I've told a few folks about the site and some have told me they looked it up and found answers to their questions on different repairs without ever having to join.

I suppose that's good for them, but its always nice to have a new owner join.

Whether folks join up, or use us as a research tool, it's all good in my book.

This site has matured into much more than was imagined a nearly a decade ago, and we'll continue to expand it as time goes by.

Members like you Grizzly drive this site, and your participation and input are valued by me, and the rest of the staff here.

Knowing that you found the info you were seeking, and that it proved beneficial is what we're here for.

As far as reminiscing on days gone by, posts like that make my day. It's nice to know that there a more than a few of us here who can still set the points in a distributor with nothing more than a dime and a pack of paper matches.

There's always the 'FPFQ' phenomenon that will affect site participation as a vehicle line gets older and less costly to purchase. I first saw that term on the LS1GTO site but some adaptation of this is likely true for the HHR also. It touches on what eaglefreak138 said in the initial post. They define it as such:
It stands for "falling price, falling quality". It started when modern (04-06) GTO's came down in price and the younger crowds began purchasing the cars and putting them in ditches, paying 23% interest on them, or modifying them via the local Autozone discount rack.

With the amount of HHRs I see on the road daily, (Sunday I was the middle car of a random three HHR convoy. My kids loved it!) I would think there would be more people on here. This is a very good forum. When I see another HHR on the road, I always wonder if they are a member here. But I suppose a lot more people these days are not the DIY-type, or are not into modding.

Coming from a relatively new member, This site is awesome. Lots of people on here have a vast array of knowledge. Especially the older guys. I am on here daily and I see people asking questions and getting answers. Which id what a forum is supposed to be. Even if we don't know exactly what is wrong there are always ideas put out there. No one is overly rude, and Ive seen lots of us make everyone feel welcome. My two cents.

Interesting.....

It stands for "falling price, falling quality". It started when modern (04-06) GTO's came down in price and the younger crowds began purchasing the cars and putting them in ditches, paying 23% interest on them, or modifying them via the local Autozone discount rack.

That is ALMOST exactly what my insurance man quoted when I asked why the HHR costs more to insure than my Vette or Cadillac.

I don't believe the demographic posted means very much.......very deceptive really. While it probably does account for those who joined, it does not account for those who are still here or active. I mean, come on, about 46% women. I couldn't find more than 2-3 posts by women in the past 2 months. Doubt very seriously if you could find 20 posts for this year. That's outrageous. 70+ thousand membership numbers, makes about 30,000 females.

So I support "fireman's" hypothesis ........join, provide an intro or ask a question and leave. Really too bad in my opinion.

In essence, joining means very little.......it's free.

I come here daily because my job is rather boring but I rarely post anymore. My HHR has evolved into something that most members here tend to frown down upon so I post on other avenues of social media instead.
