SS Brake Dust
I haven't ran across this on the forum yet so I'll ask. I picked up my 08 SS on Friday afternoon. Rained all day Sat. First wash on Sun. Installed new ceramic brake pads front and rear on Monday afternoon. I'm surprised with the factory 18" chrome wheels and four wheel discs that they didn't install OEM ceramic pads. You could write your name on the rims after 1 day of normal driving! Anyone else have this issue? Cost me $124, installed myself in 45 minutes.
yep...the dust is horrible. i forgot brake dust existed thanks to the ceramics i've been running in my Camaro (was my DD til i bought the SS) for at least 2 years now. it sucks...but i don't wanna spend more money on something that doesn't really need the work right now. give em a couple months, and i'll prolly get fed up enough to change em lol
You MIGHT experience less dust after some extended mileage (really depends on the manufacturers composition of the pads).
I would think a certain amount should/would be expected on new pads, hubs, etc......burnishing factor ????

I am surprised by your dusting issues.
My panel has been the cleanest running disc brakes I have ever owned. I find the front wheels are only slightly dirtier than the rears after a week of driving 350+ miles and really not bad at all. I was already planning on staying with the OEM pads because of this.

My SS looked like black Chrome wheels after a week. They dust really bad, but most pads do even some ceramics. It is just a matter of how much. The ceramic pads I got from NAPA for my wife's Equinox were great.
A little paraphrase from the Baer brakes website many years ago: "There is no such thing as a dustless brake pad. The only truly dustless brake pad would be a stopless brake pad."

i'm considering going with the EBC Red Stuff ceramics, with some EBC slotted/dimpled rotors. saw them on a supporting vendors site, and now i forgot which site lol.
the EBC stuff i mentioned would be front only, they didn't list any rears on the vendors site. but my rears actually barely dust, but my fronts are really bad.
