steering column replacement tips needed

Hey all, I have an '06 2LT that has a rattle in the steering column. I am quite sure that it is coming from somewhere above the intermediate shaft, possibly the clock spring, etc.

Anyway, I picked up a used column from a u-pull type recycler, that includes basically everything above the intermediate shaft, motor, column, wheel, etc. The donor was a 2010 LS. I am planning on swapping some parts out to see if I can find the rattle. The biggest question I have is, the "new" column's steering wheel was locked at an angle, and I am wondering how you go about unlocking the wheel? I don't have the key for the "new" column, though it does have a lock cylinder installed.

Really just looking for some tips from anyone who has done something like this before? Especially the locked steering wheel.

Thanks,

You will need to remove the key cylinder and PK3 sensor and switch them. I don't know to do it without a key.
I don't know what would cause a rattle. If the clockspring was bad the horn would not work; they usually do a scrape sound.

Thanks, I'll see if I can figure out the key and sensor.

This isn't a scrape, it is a rattle, like something is loose. AFAIK, the horn and everything else work perfectly. To me is honestly sounds like the rattle is come from more the upper left side of the dash, like just left of the cluster. But it is in the steering somewhere. I might throw in a new intermediate shaft just to make 100% sure that is crossed off the list, but it really sounds higher up and is not a clunk that I would expect read about from the shaft.

Take out the plastic surround for the instrument cluster, look for friction marks on the plastic, there’s were a noise can generate.
I wipe a dab of dielectric grease on those points . No rattle
