nothing, I'm not a girly girl that has to have hand lotion all the time... and I know it's old, I just haven't noticed it in other people's pictures

Nope! But Sweetie’s 2003 Sunfire it had a leather wrapped steering wheel , it started to peel about six months before she sold it in 2019. She isn’t one for hand lotion or rings either.
I think it was just age. Sun damage possibly

I've have always kept a cheap Walmart $5 wheel wrap on my SS. Change it out every couple of years when it gets sun bleached. The steering wheel leather always looks like new when I swap covers.
Not a bit of wear.

Do you have sweaty hands? The salts in sweat will do that.

I note the spot is where the sun light hits it full on when parked.

Maybe a Florida humidity thing?

wet leather/skin + finger ring + sun = increased wear

not overly sweaty no... and no rings

probably the FL sun.

I've always kept the old lace up covers on my Monte and G20, but it looks correct in those vehicles (and also those lace up ones are hard to find now days!)

I hate most of the modern style covers and most look awkward on today's multispoke/airbag wheels IMO
